Little Octobrist "Oktyabrenok" is a member of the younger prep group of Lenin All-Union Pioneer Organization.
The first groups of Little Octobrists "Oktyabriata" occurred in the summer of 1923 in Moscow and got its name from October Revolution of 1917, the year they were born.
Little Octobrist Star "Oktyabryatskaya Zvezdochka" (group) was formed by 5 children aged 7 to 9 years under the leadership of one Young Pioneer.
In August of 1924 Little Octobrists were officially recognized as prep group for Lenin All-Union Pioneer Organization. Oktyabriata were to prepare children for entry into Pioneer Organization, beginner communist education, assistance in becoming a "young builder of communism." In addition Oktyabriata groups were designed to develop in children independence, initiative, and foster active involvement in social, political and cultural life.
In 1976-1986 the total number of Little Octobrists in the Soviet Union was 8-10 million children.
After the collapse of Lenin's Young Pioneer Organization of the Soviet Union in 1990 Oktyabriata ceased to exist. Number of former Octobrists joined the junior branch of the Federation of Scouts of Russia.
Presently Oktyabriata exist at Pioneer organizations of Communist parties.
